The Rev. Glenna Tillery Shepherd

Glenna Shepherd has served in ministry supplying congregations in Georgia, Minnesota, Florida, Texas and Oregon.   She served as Elder (similar in function to a Conference Minister) Region 4/Metropolitan Community Churches in London, England, from 2006 to 2010 working with congregations in Europe and Africa.  Currently, she is pastor of Pleasant Hill Community Church, UCC in Tennessee.

A talented musician, Glenna received a Bachelors and Masters of Music from the University of Tennessee in Knoxville in the 1970s.  In the 1980s and '90s she served in such diverse positions as director of music ministries, emergency services coordinator, prison ministries with women, director of homeless ministries, and facilitator of a spirituality program all in the Atlanta, GA, area. 

Answering the call to ministry she received a Master of Divinity from Emory University/Candler School of Theology in 1994.  She continued her theological education at the Pacific School of Religion at the doctoral level.  Rev. Shepherd has been a senior consultant, working mostly in the areas of congregational development/ vitality and worship/music with The Center for Progressive Renewal since 2010.

Glenna is the author of "Creating a Life that Matters", "Job Generation: from Chaos to Character", and "Out on a Limb: Sermons of Risk and Revolution" (with Foreword by Rep. John Lewis published in 2015).  

Her wife, Clare Summerskill, is a stand-up comedienne, a singer-songwriter, an actress, and a playwright who, as a British Citizen, works primarily in the UK, but spends about half the year with Glenna in the U.S.
