Week Two July 2 - 9, 2016

The Rev. Sara Wilcox

Sara serves as the Director of New Church Initiatives for the Center for    Progressive Renewal and Co-Pastors Land of the Sky United Church of Christ in Asheville, NC.  In her role at CPR, she coaches pastors and lay leaders to do new things to grow the church and its impact.  At Land of the Sky, she does new things all the time with a courageous group of folks who give their lives to living justly, loving abundantly and walking humbly in the ways of Jesus.

When she moved to Asheville, NC she served in a non-profit that supported men in the criminal justice system seeking alternatives to incarceration.  She served as chaplain, focusing on trauma and palliative care; and she provided spiritual guidance to women in the midst of recovery. And during all of it, she planted a church with the love and commitment of others who believe God is doing a new thing all the time.

Sara loves the United Church of Christ and believes its best days are ahead. She loves the opportunity she has to connect with others in the wider body of Christ. She loves plotting out ways to bring more of God’s love to this hurt and broken world.

She spends her days with her husband Jeff, and daughters Anna (10) and Ella (7). She is excited to be in Chautauqua to listen, learn, grow and serve.
