Week Four July 16 - 23, 2016

The Rev. Judith Fiocco

Judy has had a wide variety of lay and ordained ministerial experiences in five different regions of the country. Examples include leading a weekly     Bible drama group for children at Oakhurst Baptist Church in Decatur, Georgia, helping to establish monthly healing stations during   worship at Church of the  Crossroads (UCC) in Honolulu, being transformed from Pastor to clown, Flora Di Florio for    Vacation Bible School at     Evangelical U.C.C. in       Boonville, Missouri, and        co-leading on-going worship services in the state prison system with Larry Jones, her husband of 30 years. She has been instrumental in starting inter-racial and ecumenical   sacred conversations on race in her community of Fulton, Missouri.

Judy has also been a speech-language therapist in schools in Georgia,      Hawaii and Missouri, the latter two being state schools for the Deaf. She graduated from Pacific School of Religion in 2008, where her favorite course was “Experiments in Prayer and Meditation” with Jesuit Fr. George Murphy. Judy continues journaling, daily centering prayer, monthly spiritual direction and regular retreats. Humor, creativity and compassion are key components of her work in church, school, prison and the wider community. Judy and Larry are “over the moon” about coming to Chautauqua this summer to connect with kindred spirits from all over the country.
