Week Three July 9 - 9, 2016

The Rev. Dr. Richard Danielson

Rick serves as senior pastor of Community United Church of Christ in   Boulder, Colorado.  Community UCC is an Open and Affirming congregation and is a leader in the areas of social and environmental justice.

Rick’s pastoral ministry began at age 20 while serving three United Methodist churches on a circuit in Western New York.  After graduating from  Asbury Theological Seminary, he served congregations in the Western New York and on the coast of Maine.  He was senior pastor of the Fredonia (NY) UMC.

In 2005, Rick’s ordination was recognized by the United Church of Christ.  He served as pastor of Trinity UCC in Buffalo, NY and guided the church in merging with St. Stephens-Bethlehem UCC in nearby Amherst.  Rick became pastor of the combined congregation and served there until 2014 when he moved to Colorado.

In 2012, Rick was awarded a grant from the Lily Endowment for Clergy Renewal.  In 2013, he and his husband Leroy traveled through seven countries in the Middle East and Mediterranean regions.  A book of his artwork (drawings and photography) and daily sabbatical journaling was printed under the title “With Eyes Wide Open; Pursuing Beauty in the Lands of the Bible.”

Rick has two adult children living in New York State.  Rick has had a deep love of Chautauqua since first visiting with his family as a child.  It is a great joy for him to serve as a chaplain this summer!
