 Introducing Ron Cole-Turner, our Chaplain-Administrator

The Chaplain-Administrator for the Chautauqua UCC Society is Ron Cole-Turner.  He was ordained to the ministry in the Oneida Association, New York Conference of the United Church of Christ in 1974.  He holds an M.Div. and an Ph.D. from Princeton Theological Seminary.

Ron is on the faculty of Pittsburgh Theological Seminary, where he hold the H. Parker Sharp Chair in Theology and Ethics, a position that focuses on the relationship between science and technology and the Christian faith.

He is probably best known across the church as the author of the popular baptism hymn, "Child of Blessing, Child of Promise," which is found in many of the newer hymnals including the New Century Hymnal.   He has lectured at various UCC seminaries (Lancaster, Andover-Newton, Eden, and Bangor) and at conference and association events from Cape Cod to Washington state.

His research focuses on recent developments in science and technology that shed light on what it means to be human, especially those developments that promise to modify or "enhance" human life.  His most recent book, Transhumanism and Transcendence: Christian Hope in an Age of Technological Enhancement (edited), appears in November 2011 from Georgetown University Press.

Ron was appointed Chaplain-Administrator in 2011.
